Artyom, along with his group of survivors - and innocent bystanders in general - find themselves caught with increasing frequency in the middle of warring factions in the metro, a situation made all the more dangerous and untenable by the mutated creatures that live both in the tunnels and on the surface. You’re cast as one of these survivors, a ranger named Artyom, the hero of Metro 2033 returned for another valiant adventure. Survivors are packed into the dark and always-dangerous subway tunnels under the dilapidated, radioactive capital city. By the time you jump in, decades have passed since that fateful day. Metro: Last Light shows this world-changing event in a stunning opening cutscene that illustrates the bombardment of Moscow as Russia launches its own missile stockpile, when it’s already too late for anything but revenge. Inspired by the Metro universe created by author Dmitry Glukhovsky, Last Light is a follow-up to 2010’s Metro 2033’s riveting story of the years following a mutually assured destruction nuclear holocaust from the Russian point of view.

METRO LAST LIGHT PC PERFORMANCE PS3

Thankfully, Last Light on PC is technically superior to its console brethren, and doesn’t suffer from issues found on PS3 and 360, such as texture loading problems, occasional screen-tearing and lock-ups. These issues aren’t enough to sink Last Light – it’s most certainly a good game – but 4A Games’ latest foray is certainly hindered by them. Getting through Metro: Last Light also requires a different kind of patience, the kind that lets you forgive occasionally uneven play, questionable AI, and a story that starts strong but ends flat. It undoubtedly rewards methodical players. The more time you spend exploring, listening, reading, and watching, the more you appreciate what 4A Games has created: an interesting story-driven single-player-only FPS. In a post-apocalyptic adventure that relies a great deal on constant bits of exposition, the experience quickly grows into something much more than just your everyday shooter. I hope that current games can and will do the same.Getting everything out of Metro: Last Light requires slow and patient play. We didn’t squeeze much fps on tweaking, but updating the game doubled the performance, from 25fps to 50fps – I’ve never seen anything such improvement before.

The Celeron, maybe the cheapest dual-core around, also put a nice performance at 2.6 GHz – that means dual-core CPUs are still capable of gaming. Luckily our custom preset gave us a playable result without losing many visual qualities. I am glad to see that the 9600GT can still perform fairly with normal quality in this visually stunning game while the HD 7750 performed far better even with very high quality, but turning all settings on gives the card a tough challenge.

METRO LAST LIGHT PC PERFORMANCE WINDOWS 8

This game performed better in Windows 7 than in Windows 8 but the gap is too low to feel much difference. Having 4 GB of memory doesn’t change the result but having 6 GB improved the result, adding 3fps on the average and 1fps to the minimum.

I imitated the benchmarking scene to find out if it truly represents the game’s performance. The benchmarking tool is a fly-over type where the camera is hovering around the scene with intense gunfights and explosions. The game came with a benchmarking tool located at the game’s installation folder. Fraps 3.5.9 for recording average and minimum frames per second.īuilt-In Benchmarking Tool vs Actual Gameplay. Our test system is slightly higher than the minimum requirements, but we will also test the game with Geforce 9600GT which is way lower than the required GTS 250, to see how the game will perform on lower systems.Īll tests were done with the following components and settings Windows 8 64-bit, Windows 7 SP1 64-bit / DX 11 We are hopeful that Last Light is now optimized and scales down to low-end systems. But with these visual enhancements, does this mean a higher system is required? Metro: 2033 offered great visuals at its time but cripples almost every system. Using the built-in heavily modified 4A Engine, the developer was able to render breathtaking visuals and include additional in-game enhancements like Nvidia Physx and Supersampling Anti-aliasing. The sequel to Metro: 2033, Metro: Last Light continues the story in the personality of Artyom once more.
